Attukal Pongala 2011

Attukal Pongala Festival is a religious pilgrimage that is exclusively conducted for women.

Attukal Pongala is also known as women's Sabarimala and this ceremony is known all over the world.

Lot of tourists come to Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala to see millions of women gathering around the city to prepare pongala for the Attukal Amma.

'Attukal Pongala 2011' will be held on 19th February 2011.

The festival in Attukal Bhagavathy temple will be for 10 days beginning from 11th to 20th February 2011.

The festival will begin on 11th February with Kappukettu ceremony and reciting of Kannaki Charitam.

Young boys who have registered for Kuthiyottam vratham will start their staying near the temple from 13th February 2011 till the date of Pongala on 19th February.

Thalappoli by young girls is a main offering given on the evening of Pongala.

Many actress of malayalam film industry also took part in the Attukal Pongala in 2011.

Every year there is a notable presence of south indian celebrities from cinema and serials around Attukal temple especially near the house of malayalam actress Kalaranjini.

Every year Attukal Pongala ceremony will be celebrated on the malayalam calendar day of birth star Pooram which comes in the month of Makaram - Kumbham.

On the day of Pongala Mahotsavam all roads in Trivandrum city will be filled by women who come to offer their prayers by preparing ponkala for Attukal devi.

Pongala offerings will begin at 10.30 am on 19th February 2011 and the Pongala Nivedyam will be done from 2.30 pm.

A Guinness World Record was given to the Attukal Bhagavathy Temple Pongala.

In 2009 the Guinness Committee certified that an annual gathering of about 2.5 million women was seen which was a world record.

When the Attukal Pongala 2011 comes , it is expected that there will be about 4 million women gathering for Pongala at Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) in Kerala.
